One sheet at a time, since the second year of Taishō.

Shinsendō has stood in Yanaka since 1913 — the second year of the Taishō era. For more than one hundred and ten years the shop has been kept by a single family, and it is tended today by the fourth-generation owner.

For over 110 years — since the founding in 1913 — the same family has kept this shop, one generation handing the fire to the next.

Every cracker is grilled by hand, one piece at a time, on the premises — exactly as it was at the founding. No preservatives, no colorants, no MSG. Only rice, fire, and a practised hand.

Specimen Plate

A flat record of the house's specimens, drawn from the day's grilling. Each is fired individually; the catch of the trade is that only the signature Katamaru carries a printed price. The rest are sold by the day's market.
