A Printer's Note on the House

Heritage

One sheet at a time, since the second year of Taishō.

Founded in 1913, a Yanaka senbei shop where every cracker is hand-grilled one at a time.

Shinsendō has stood in Yanaka since 1913 — the second year of the Taishō era. For more than one hundred and ten years a single family has kept the shop, each generation handing the fire to the next, and it is tended today by the fourth-generation owner.

Exactly as it was at the founding, every cracker is grilled by hand, one piece at a time, with no preservatives, no colorants, and no MSG. Only rice, fire, and a practised hand.

The signature Katamaru was awarded a ministerial prize at the National Confectionery Exposition — and it remains the fourth-generation owner’s number-one pick.
